We received over a hundred submissions for our customer inspiration photo contest last month. Here’s our interview with our winner, Mia Jones, a Kentucky-based designer who would live in an Italian Villa with contemporary art and fabulous rugs if she could. Read about her trend forecasts for next season, and why the dining room is her favorite room of all.

Rove Concepts: Hello Mia, congratulations! Thanks so much for sharing your photo with #MYROVE. Your style is certainly inspiring and we’re eager to pick your brain. Now you are a professional interior designer. How would you describe your interior design style?

M: My design aesthetic is clean upholstered lines with French, Italian antiques, joined by contemporary elements such as art, iconic mid century pieces, and a slash of stone and glass.

RC: They often say one’s environment has a big part in sparking creativity. How does the city you live in inspire how you decorate?

M: I’ve lived in the heart of Houston, Texas all my life and have a horse farm here in Lexington, Ky where I recently moved to full time. The two cities are quite different and I draw from the quiet of the country, and the booming diversity of Houston.

RC: Does your childhood or work life inspire the way your think about design?

M: My Mother had beautiful taste it was always around me even before I really could form a thought about it. Her interiors and her style were fashion forward.

RC: What is your favorite room in the house, and why?

M: Dining room. You can turn it upside down and make it look less like a “dining room” and more like an intimate room with dining, if you have the space!

RC: What are your favorite pieces from Rove Concepts?

M: Bruno flat bar chair, Saarinen table 78″, Barcelona daybed, Eames lounger

RC: Describe your dream home.

M: Italian Villa, with contemporary art, antiques, mid century pieces and fabulous rugs.

RC: What is your favorite material? Marble? Solid oak?

M: I love both together, but I would say marble wins just slightly.

RC: What design trends can you forecast for next season?

M: I think there will be more graphic colors and bold design elements thrown into a quiet palate.

RC: What are your favorite interior design trends right now?

M: Navy velvet, yellow taffeta, Holland and Sherry fabrics, always.

RC: You inspire us. Is there anyone who inspires you?

M: JeanLouis Deniot and John Saladino are two designers that  I love.

RC: Well thank you so much for your time, Mia! Thanks again for sharing with #MYROVE.
